Attractions & Activities

Umhlanga Rocks is the jewel of the KwaZulu-Natal coastline. It is one of the most sought-after holiday resorts in South Africa whilst still retaining its unique seaside village feel. If you are looking for a holiday, at any time of the year, Umhlanga is definitely a first choice. The area enjoys a subtropical climate and winters are mild so allowing holiday makers to use the swimming beaches all year round.

Water Enthusiasts

Whether it is deep sea fishing, dolphin viewing, scuba diving, snorkelling, surfing or just relaxing on the beaches, there is much on offer in the area.  The warm waters of the Indian Ocean make swimming in the sea an all year event along this stretch of coastline.

Walks

Take a leisurely stroll or fast-paced run along the Umhlanga Promenade and you are guaranteed a 5 km stretch of beautiful coastline while you are out and about.  Keep watch for dolphins along the route as large pods are a regularly spotted swimming beyond the breakers.  Stop for a coffee or lunch at one the of cafes along the walkway.  Make sure to walk the award-winning Whale Bone Pier – it was recently voted the Best Pier in the World.  You can also join the Umhlanga Park Run on Saturday mornings along this route.

Take a stroll through the Umhlanga Lagoon Reserve.  This small remnant of coastal Hawaan forest is home to abundant birdlife and creatures.  Enjoy the peace and quiet of the forest, the thrill of crossing the lagoon on wooden bridges, and the old, established trees.  The walk starts near the Breaker's Resort on Lagoon Drive at the northern end of the Umhlanga Promenade.  The path opens up onto the Umhlanga Lagoon beach, a quieter open space that differs from the busy, popular beaches.

Entertainment & Shopping

Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom is only a five minute drive away and you can be at uShaka Marine World in less than 20 minutes where there is plenty on offer - Wet & Wild waterslides, Seaworld world-class aquarium, Kids World play area, Dangerous Creatures exhibit, daily dolphin, seal and penguin shows, and the Durban Beachfront Promenade.

Gateway Theatre of Shopping, the largest shopping and entertainment centre in the Southern Hemisphere, is a five minute drive away.  If you are looking for an upmarket shopping experience the La Lucia Mall can also be reached within 10 minutes.  The Pearls offers a number of shopping and dining options and is located within the Umhlanga Village.

Take a ride in the cable car to the top of the Moses Mabhida Stadium (home of the 2010 Football Word Cup) and enjoy spectacular views of Durban and the entire coastline as far as the eye can see.

Golf

There are several world class golf courses in the greater Durban area:  Mount Edgecombe Country Club (4 km), Durban Country Club (11 km) and Simbithi Country Club (28 km) are all excellent 18 hole courses.

Hospitals

Private, first world hospitals are a five minute drive away. Both Busamed Gateway Hospital and Netcare Umhlanga Hospital are located within 2 km of the apartment.
